The Standing Eleven-Headed Kannon Bosatsu (Ekadasamukha) of Shorin-ji temple in Sakurai, Nara Pref. — a registered national treasure of Japan — which was returned to the temple’s renovated Kannon-do hall in July 2022, is now on display for public viewing with a 360-degree view of the statue.

The Kannon-do hall, built in 1959, had been deteriorating over the years and its earthquake-resistance was said to be insufficient. The needed fundamental renovation work began in June 2021 and was completed earlier this year. The total construction cost of about 170 million yen (1.27 million dollars) was partially covered by donations raised from crowdfunding (Donations amounted to about 56 million yen).

The Buddhist statue — 209 centimeters in height — stands in a glass display case equipped with a seismic isolator placed at the center of the new hall, whose ceiling is dome-shaped to represent the universe.
