{"id":7954,"date":"2021-11-30T14:57:14","date_gmt":"2021-11-30T05:57:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/localhost:10443\/en\/?p=7954"},"modified":"2021-12-08T12:12:27","modified_gmt":"2021-12-08T03:12:27","slug":"tsumugu-project-set-to-restore-more-japanese-treasures-in-fiscal-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tsumugu.yomiuri.co.jp\/en\/feature\/tsumugu-project-set-to-restore-more-japanese-treasures-in-fiscal-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"TSUMUGU Project set to restore more Japanese treasures in fiscal 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-tsumugu-blocks-modal-image wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/kijinai_shitennoji_01.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>  One of the &#8220;Fan-shaped Booklets of the Lotus Sutra,&#8221; a national treasure owned by Shitenno-ji temple in Osaka Prefecture (Photo courtesy of Shitenno-ji temple)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;Tsumugu&nbsp;Project has selected six assets, including the national treasure &#8220;Fan-shaped Booklets of the Lotus Sutra&#8221; from Shitenno-ji temple in Osaka Prefecture, to be restored in fiscal 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The selection committee of the project, launched by the Cultural Affairs Agency, the Imperial Household Agency and The Yomiuri Shimbun, received requests from applicants and announced its final decision on Nov. 25, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fan-shaped booklets, which date back to the late Heian period (late eighth to late 12th century), are beautifully decorated with drawings of customs followed by aristocrats and commoners. The art is painted as a background on the Lotus Sutra and other texts in the Yamato-e Japanese painting style, using fine mica and other materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to the booklets, another national treasure, the &#8220;Illustrated Sutra of Cause and Effect&#8221; from Kyoto Prefecture&#8217;s Jobonrendai-ji temple, and four important cultural assets were selected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-tsumugu-blocks-modal-image wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\"
